Company History |
FDC Rescue Products (FDC) was established in 1998 after being approached by International Safety Instruments (ISI) to become their distributor for self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and other forms of respiratory protection within the State of Arizona. Earl Johnson (President/Owner) had a prior 6 ½ year relationship with ISI as the primary sales representative for ISI working with a manufacturer’s representative firm from 1990 to 1997. During his tenure with that firm, Earl sold fire apparatus, respiratory protection, extrication tools and loose gear affiliated with the fire service. Based upon our experience and commitment to the customer, FDC Rescue Products soon became an ISI Authorized Service Centerand is one of the few ISI distributors able to distribute their products to Fire, Police and Industrial customers. Currently, FDC Rescue also serves as the only authorized western U.S. factory repair center for ISI. After building the SCBA market, FDC Rescue Products began to diversify into other products at the request of our customers. This includes the remainder of personnel protective equipment (PPE) for fire fighters to include: firefighter turnouts, helmets, boots, hoods and gloves. This was a natural fit as many fire departments were obtaining government grants for PPE and want to sole source their vendor. In the fall of 2003, FDC was contacted by Master Body Works, Inc. (MBW) to begin representation of fire apparatus designed primarily for wildland and urban interface applications. Again, Earl’s extensive history in apparatus as both a sales representative and end-user, this would be a natural fit to the overall growth of the company and create yet a larger customer base. Subsequently FDC Rescue Products has added product lines to outfit fire apparatus such as Niedner fire hose, POK nozzles and accessories, Kochek hardware, and many other lines. Within the SCBA market, there have been growing concerns for police agencies to obtain SCBA’s and other forms of respiratory protection. FDC was able to secure the Police line from ISI and has added gas masks and domestic preparedness respirators to complete the line. We’ve also added surveillance cameras to give us greater market opportunity within the police arena.
FDC has added personnel in office for computing and website management, a northern Arizona sales representative and service personnel for in house repairs and service contracts to the approximately 50 fire departments in Arizona who are ISI end-users. FDC Rescue Products realizes that we have a commitment to our customers and manufacturers that the end-user fully understands the features and applications for each product. Therefore provide training free of charge with all new deliveries as well as follow-up training and recertification when necessary. Growth decisions for adding manufacturers are based upon quality and uniqueness of products available and our ability to serve our customers with professional training and customer care. We tend to focus on representing products that have distinct advantages over the competition and market on quality and features rather than price. We recently received approval to market all our products in New Mexico in addition to Arizona. This will only improve our customer base and strengthen position in the market place.
